Diffculty placing widgets on form

Postby dscapuano » Thu May 05, 2011 6:46 pm

OS: Mint Linux v 10 KDE

I have downloaded kbasic for linux and placed the directory into my home directory.

Issue:
1. When I try to move a widget from the "default" list to the form layout, it does nothing.
2. When I use the top menu "insert", the widget will be placed onto the form layout. However, every time I click the mouse it places the same widget onto the form. If I click on "select", it does not turn off that widget (sometimes it does though...go figure).
3. I checked the list of dependencies and they are all there.
4. Am I missing something on the dependencies?
5. Is there an older version of kbasic that I can try?
6. Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks,
dc :ugeek:

Hi dscapuano,

To place controls on your form do the following,

Schermafbeelding 2011-05-06 om 11.18.02.png (16.78 KiB) Viewed 1620 times

Select (click on) an control -> click on the form and the selected control is placed on the form.
After that click on Select to disable the selected control.
If you don't select 'Select' each time you click on the form a new control is created.
I don't use Linux but this works on OSX and Windows so i expect it works the same on Linux.

Thanks, but my biggest problem is that clicking on the "default" panel does not work at all. However, I can get the widgets to work if I click on widget in the "insert" menu drop down. I don't know why the default panel on the right will not select a widget.
I downloaded kbasic on another computer with windows XP. Selecting widgets on the right panel works fine there.

This seems to be an issue with the Linux version.

Yes, I have exactly the same problem. Is this to do with the Linux distro? I'm using Ubuntu.

. . . additionally:
If, after clicking on the form a second time so that yet another object is placed on it, if I then 'undo' it, the extra object is removed, but also any property that I have put into the object that I actually wanted. So, it looks as though the unwanted object isn't actually being placed on the form, it just looks as if it's been inserted.
If after inserting an object I then go back to 'Insert' (on the toolbar) and click Form/Select, I can then select objects on the form, rather than adding unwanted objects. If I then try inserting another copy of the object I last added, instead of adding another object, I get a dialogue window that says
'Please click on the position,
where the control is to be inserted.'
When I click 'OK' in the dialogue window the form title flashes and the pointer is then, once again, only able to select objects on the form. It's as though the object that I want to insert has now been 'turned off'. If I try to insert a different object, this works. If I then click on 'Insert/Form/Select' I can once again select objects on the form BUT if I try to insert another copy of THIS object, I get that same darned dialogue box again and this object has been turned off.
It's all VERY frustrating, I never had this sort of trouble with VB5!!

I've given up on trying to use this with Linux Mint. I have had other problems with Linux MInt and the way it interacts with some of the drivers. I am using an older Dell machine which doesn't help.

My next excursion into the Linux world will avoid Ubuntu or its derivatives. I have had too many problems, although I must admit that the Mint folks have done a great job with their version.

Has anyone tried a different version of Linux where Kbasic works properly?

Thanks,
