If you have problems with the installation of KBasic, you are right here

Windows Vista Upgrades

The October 10 minor upgrade refers.

Should one uninstall the existing (previous) version and then install the upgrade or can one install the upgrade over the existing version? Since KBasic is large I don't want two slightly different versions installed at the same time. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm new to the software.

I never delete the old files.
Just run the installer on XP and OSX
Works in both cases.

Always install the newest version. As slowdown recommend, just run the installer and overwrite the old version.
