Why buy the program?

Why buy the program?

Postby babedieboe » Sat Feb 26, 2011 7:41 pm

Hello,
I have no problem paying for this beautiful piece of software, but
i make programs for myself (so far). Is there any reason then why
i should purchase the program?
It says that:

Additionally to your KBasic Professional Software, you get the following rights and features.
-Compilation to binary files / Runnable without KBasic itself

But i am on a mac, and without this license i already get a .app program that works.....(but is large!)
Does thjis mean the .app will be much larger/faster when i purchase it?

thanks all!

Hi babedieboe,

Nobody will force you to buy a license but,
I have no problem paying for this beautiful piece of software

Why not supporting the person who is donating a lot of time to this beautiful piece of software ;)
i make programs for myself (so far)

And when you write software in the future for others and ask for a small donation you like . . . . just.
But i am on a mac, and without this license i already get a .app program that works.....(but is large!)
Does thjis mean the .app will be much larger/faster when i purchase it?

You mean that that you can compile your code to an in-depended app without a license ?

I agree: i like donating for hard work: i just wondered about the differences.

Yes,the .app runs on my imac yes....but it is the same imac that i have kbasic installed on...
So the app doesnt run on a mac without kbasic installed on it?

Thanks m8!

Hi babedieboe,
So the app doesn't run on a mac without kbasic installed on it?

if this one is not activated you can't create in-depended app's

You downloaded KBasic from the KBasic site ?
About the size of the app, i guess that the app is about 20 or 30 Mb, the rest is for the Qt framework.
KBasic and the compiled app's do need the Qt framework to run so don't delete these files.
The size of the programs don't change when you have a license, the difference is when you have
a license you can create stand alone programs and without the license you can't create stand alone programs.
Of course you can run your program in the IDE without a license.
Still don't follow you,
1) you have downloaded KBasic
2) you don't have a license but you can create stand alone programs.
am i right ?

This is what makes me wonder, why compile-in Qt? The Qt framework should only be installed, as with VB.Net. You don't install a separate framework with every app.

So the compiled apps would be only a few megs.

Hi m8!
It's getting confusing me now as well :)
Yes, i can create an .app file that runs on this same development Mac of mine.
What i want, is to create an .app for Mac's that can run without kbasic installed....so on ANY mac, just like that.
That is what i meant.
So how do i create the completely stand-alone & independent program (.app)? (that i need a license for, right?)

Thanks m8!
(and yes, i downloaded from the website)

Hi babedieboe,

Have downloaded the latest version and must admit you're right.
At this moment you can compile your code and use it on any Intel Mac without installing KBasic.
