Future of KBasic?

Future of KBasic?

Postby cnodnarb » Thu Jun 23, 2011 8:16 pm

Is KBasic being abandoned for Q7Basic? I've been fiddling about with both languages a bit and find them to be somewhat very different from one another (trying to make purchase decisions, considering final distribution size for end users etc) ;p

To be very honest, I like KBasic better at this point than Q7Basic. That could change. I guess a major factor in deciding which one to go with (if not both) is weather or not KBasic will be developed any further in the future, or if it is a final end product. Even if this is the final version I may still consider purchasing it over Q7Basic.

Thanks,

Hi,
Is KBasic being abandoned for Q7Basic?

Don't think so.
Can't tell if kbasic will be developed any further but in my opinion the author did not abandoned it.
Have to say that the author is spending the most of his time on Q7B.
I have used Kbasic for more that two years and loved it, created a few examples for kbasic.
I started to use Q7B in the preview status and it just reached Beta so it's very hard to compare both languages at this stage.
Q7B will have a lot of kbasic and more but it will take some time i guess.
At this time it's possible to write simple applications with Q7B (i did) but not everything is working and there are still bugs there, it's a Beta release ;)
Give it some time and go for Q7B, in my opinion that is the way to go.
One big advance at this moment is that the created binary's are a lot faster than the one's created by kbasic.
A dis advance is the compiler, each time you run your code it's compiled by the gcc or the vs compiler and this will take some time
but this is something wich will change in the future.
I may still consider purchasing it over Q7Basic.

If you want a complete development environment now go for kbasic, if you can wait go for Q7B.
You can try it for free, cost you only some time ;)

Hi,

As far as I understand, at least for now, they share the same licence.

Most features of KBasic will come in Q7Basic in future.
Bought licenses are valid for both.
